My name is John and I'm an alcoholic. I live in Cambridge, England and am 58 going on 14. I'm passionate (just in case you haven't guessed) about alcoholism, its causes and its treatment. I haven't had a drink for seven and a half years and am happy to live the rest of my life without alcohol, which almost destroyed me and everyone that I love. I have a website all about alcoholism and recovery, which can be found at http://www.demonsinthedark.com/.

I love to play chess on line with people all over the world at a site called http://www.itsyourturn.com/. Its a free site, but you can join it if you want to for a small annual fee which allows you to play more games and make more  moves in any given day. Its my favourite site on the whole web and allows friendships to be built with people across the planet as well as playing chess and many other games.

I play guitar and have done since I was 12, but not so much these days, and I'm also trying at the moment to try to play the keyboard, without too much success. My favourite music is folk, I love Ralph McTell, Leonard Cohen, Paul Simon, Bob Dylan and many others and I quite like a bit of country music with people like Mary Chapin Carpenter, Kris Kristopherson and others.

I am the author of Demons in the Dark, An Alcoholic's Tale, published by Publish America at the end of 2010. It is my first book and tells of my struggle with addiction and my eventual recovery. It's selling on Amazon and several other book selling websites, and so far has got some quite good reviews. I am writing my second book, a supernatural novel, with a working title of Shadows. I hope to get it published early in the new year.......watch this space

I work in social care as a senior support worker helping to look after adults with learning difficulties, which is not so much a job, more a way of life. You've got to love it to do it. Luckily, I do love it, 'cause I sure don't do it for the money. Before that I spent most of my life in the printing trade, apprenticed in the sixties as a compositor, then moving on to be a keyboard operator, then onto computers and desk top publishing and graphic design.
